CAREER OPPORTUNITY


The Lander Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of patrolman. Lander is located along the southeast end of the Wind River Mountains. Outdoor recreation opportunities are endless with hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and climbing just minutes from town.

Landers' current population is about 7000. Our department consists of 19 sworn officers including the Chief and Lieutenant and 1 civilian position. We have 4 patrol sergeants, 1 detective sergeant and 1 full time investigator and 1 fulltime School Resource officer. We typically handle about 6000 calls for service a year. Our patrol schedule is based on working 4/ 10-hour shifts. Everyone has part of a weekend off, working Sun- Wed. or Wed- Sat. Shifts are bid by seniority and for a year at a time. Vacations are also on a bid system, allowing the maximum number of employee's vacation time off during hunting season. We also have a weight room and encourage members to stay in shape by allowing time to work out during your shift if time allows. Department members that meet the fitness standards are awarded a paid day off each year. Officers also have access to our department shooting range.

With the exception of footwear uniforms and all other equipment is provided by the department. Officers take their patrol car home during their tour of duty. A variety of special assignments are available including bike patrol, Special response team, and DCI task force officer. There are also opportunities for instructor positions. Officers have ample opportunity to work overtime through funding provided by various grants and the school district for special events.

Pay is based on experience and starts at $32,340.00 per year for entry-level officers. Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave and a 20-year retirement program. For people looking to relocate from out of the area some or all of your moving expenses may be reimbursed.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States of America.
Completed high school education or equivalent
Applicants must be in good mental and physical health. Eyes must be correctable to 20/20. Applicants must be able to pass a physical fitness test based on WLEA standards.
Applicants must have a good driving record.
Applicants cannot have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or domestic violence
Applicants cannot have used illegal drugs within the past 5 years.
Applicants must be willing to reside in the city of Lander. The Chief of Police at his discretion may make exceptions to this requirement, considering emergency response time.
