The City of Lander is dedicated to new and expanding businesses and enhancing economic development opportunities. The most typical activities are tourism marketing, facilitation of industrial development through land use policies, and creation of infrastructure framework that supports economic development

Mission Statement

Encourage economic development throughout the community that is consistent with adopted comprehensive plans; promote economic opportunity for all citizens of the community, especially for unemployed and disadvantaged persons; and encourage growth in areas experiencing insufficent economic growth, all within the capacities of the community's natural resources and local public facilities by:

  • Fostering a more stable and diversified economy.
  • Creating and sustaining employment opportunities.
  • Strenghtening the skills and qualifications of our workforce.
  • Improving living conditions throughout the community.

Labor Force
The City of Lander is home to a well trained labor force and has a minimal amount of personnel problems for business & industry. Lander is characterized by its loyal, dedicated workforce. Eagle Bronze, National Outdoor Leadership School, State and Federal Government Agencies, Tourism Related Businesses are the primary employers

Quality of Life
The Lander area can offer all the elements that are key to attracting new industry and fostering existing industry growth. Located in the foothills of Wind River Mountains, transportation, education, infrastructure and a quality work force are all part of the package. The area can offer something else as well: an outstanding quality of life for employees and their families.

Health Care
Health care needs are met by the modern and growing hospital, medical clinic, more than # dentists and over # physicians in a variety of specialties. Improvements and investments in health care have expanded women's and children's health care as well.

Economic Growth
Growth in the retail sector has kept pace with industrial expansion and Lander residents enjoy a variety of shopping options including a variety of specialty shops in the historic downtown shopping district. The retail sector provides strong support for the economy as well. With economic growth has come a surge in residential construction to meet the area's housing needs.
